OC Notes - Glamour Reworked
One of my favorite people in the entire world, OC Notes, remixed the ENTIRE Fresh Espresso album. This is such a dope listening experience from front to back. So very, very different from the original and I love how Otis flipped it into a more mellow record.
Go get it HERE..it's free.

"NIKES"
Macklemore - "NIKES" Live from the City Arts Song Show at the Triple Door.
A pretty fitting song considering the name of this site...and the interview that follows is also worth a watch.
I have been slowly scaling back my sneaker obsession, and am probably going to start downsizing. The poetry contained in the song itself is enough to make you take a step back and realize just how ridiculous consumerism can be. Dope kicks are dope kicks, but seeing people suffering around the world while my closet is full of shoe boxes is starting to weigh on me.

Strange Trip
So I recently got back from a trip and had the pleasure of having Oddisee's newest release, Traveling Man, in my iPod. All I can say is this is one of the most creative and audibly stunning instrumental projects I have ever listened to or even heard about.
Here are some details:
As a musician, life is often lived on the road. Each city leaves its imprint on the artist as they develop their craft. For Oddisee, the producer and MC brainchild behind 2009's critically acclaimed Diamond District, the life and travels of the artist is no mystery. Touring, recording, and keeping up with friends and family took Oddisee beyond his hometown of Washington DC to Australia, Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America. Rather than keep these experiences to himself, Oddisee is instead releasing a new 24-track instrumental album, sharing his worldly experiences – through music, directly with his fans; a 24 city sonic tour of the world. With this new release, Oddisee is the Traveling Man...Each track was produced while Oddisee stayed in the city it was titled after...No need for a passport because Oddisee sees the world, so that you can hear it. Listen up.Peep 3 of the gems on this amazing project:
The album is available now on iTunes and you should do everything in your power to go purchase it immediately.

Shabazz Boutiques
One of my absolute favorite photographers Jamel Shabazz has signed on to do a run of tee shirts with Sedgwic and Cedar. For those that are getting tired of the photo tee, its time to re-think. These are a must have for any hip hop head and are available at the S&C website. Here's to hoping he uses the photo he took of me and my boy Eddie!

Why, Yes. Yes I do.
So the Blakroc album is great. If you haven't heard it yet, go to your nearest record store immediately.
I am actually posting about this t-shirt, which might be the best line to sum up the whole project and one of my favorite band/music related t-shirts in a long time. We have all heard some aspiring rapper ask us if we "fuck with hip hop" out on the street somewhere. Here we have the tables beinb turned by the Black Keys and Dame Dash. They went up to the prominent hip hop artists of the day and posed this question.
Cop the album and this t-shirt from the Blakroc site.

The Ecstatic x Taxi
New Videos from Mighty Mos.
MOS DEF "Ecstatic" from nabil elderkin on Vimeo.
Title track from The Ecstatic. This is in my top 5 albums of 2009. List being compiled as I watch this. So good to see the boogieman make a comeback this year. He seems hungry again musically. He made me wondering for a while, with the handful of sloppy shows and schizophrenic releases I've encountered the past few years. But Mos is back in a big way in 2009. Couldn't be happier.Ski feat. Mos Def-Taxi from Creative Control on Vimeo.
Video of Black Dante and Ski Beatz working on a cut for Ski's upcoming production album. If you didn't already know, ski was an integral part of some of my personal favorite hip hop records of all time: Jay-Z's Reasonable Doubt ("Dead Presidents," "22 Two's", "Politics as Usual," and "Feelin' It") as well as producing Camp Lo's classic Uptown Saturday Night in it's entirity. This might be one of my top albums of 2010. We'll just have to wait and find out.Tuesday, December 8, 2009
Nite Funk
Nite Funk is a collaboration between future funk maestro Dam-Funk and songstress Nite Jewel that was brought to fruition for an ongoing XLR8R series called Tune in an afternoon. Apparently they recruit two LA based artist and find a way to get them to create a song in one day. It's great to know that such a kick ass idea can yield an equally kick ass song. Some straight up baby making music.
Who knows if a full length album could spring from this, but as it stands right now my guy Dam-Funk can do no wrong.
