Bumbershoot just became worthy of my $80

I am always super stoked to spend 3 days in Seattle Center for one of the last weekends of the summer partaking in everything I love about this city...

Great music, great people, great (local) beers, beautiful weather...anything else I'm missing? Yep, Bumbershoot never really disappoints. Year after year I go with pretty muted expectations (especially after the corporate takeover), and thoroughly enjoy the hell out of it. Pick a beer garden and just let the music come to me. Smoke a fatty, wander the grounds with ears wide open, ready to hop into a crowd if something catches my attention. I always find something new and amazing I've never heard, and the journey is 99% the fun anyways.

I love 3 day weekends. I love Seattle in September. I love Bumbershoot.

Well, Bumbershoot just announced more additions to their lineup and I'm sold once again. I was a little weary with the announcement of Sheryl Crow and Katy Perry, but they just dropped some serious heat with this latest group of artists (and plenty of local flavor!). Here are just a few of the groups I am geeked about peeping:

De La Soul / Raphael Saadiq (!!!!!!!!) / Roy Ayers / Swollen Members / Kasabian / Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears / Janelle Monae (!!!!!!) / The Knux / The New Mastersounds (!!!!!!) / MSTRKRAFT / Reggie Watts / Wale ft. UCB / DJ Spooky / Keller Williams / Michael Franti

and the list of locals is fucking stellar:

Common Market / Dyno Jamz / Dyme Def / Handful of Luvin' / D. Black / Spaceman / Natalie Portman's Shaved Head / Macklemore / Reggie Watts / Truckasaurus

And there is still another round of acts to be announced. Get your tickets HERE.

See you in the Fisher Green beer garden.

Summer Madness!!

There's one thing I love about summer even more than the girlies in skimpy clothing, hoop in the park, and bar-b-qs with Teh Fam... The sneakers. Only summer could give up a color way like this one. Flossy purple, deep yellow, and Ice clear soles (those should be fun to keep clean). Any way holler at RPS for a pair, and shouts to my man Will for the look.

It's Back!!!

Hello again childhood, I've missed you. Oh me I've been great what's new with you? Sure man I'd love to play a game of Punch Out!! What's that you say there's a new version on the Wii? No it's fine fuck summer and the sun, I'm down to play til my arms fall off!!

Nike Big Nike Low - Houston Space City

Home of the Lydon Johnson Space Center and Mission Control, Houston is a major center for the US's Space program. These sneakers build upon that theme and have a super dope moon rock shine to them, along with a speckled sole and a planetary ring around the NIKE on the heal.

The Nike Big Nike Low Houston “Space City” is expected to release on June 16, 2009 at selected House of Hoops locations.

Meet 'The Kid'

So The Natural Junior Griffey himself will be doing a meet and greet @ Nike Town this Saturday @ 11:30 am. I know I will be there (hungover) ready to shake the hand of my childhood idol. I mean really...if you lived anywhere near the NW during the 90's this guy was that guy. I would hope they have some old Griffey in 96 or Hit it Here JR poster for sale, but if not I might just have to cop some sneaks for him to sign.

That said, the Air Griffey Max is looking to be a fine addition to the collection. They just dropped the new royal blue colorway. Sure they are out there...but if I were to get JR to sign them? I wouldn't ever put them on my feet.

Not again!

In my opinion the Poorman's Weapon might have been one of the best sneaker releases of last year. I waited months for this thing. It's modeled after a U.S. Military paratrooper's jacket. Black on the outside with a day-glow orange lining to be turned out if lost behind enemy lines. It even had all Velcro logo's as the paratrooper's jacket does so all marks of rank can be removed if captured by the enemy. Well if you missed it the first time, you've got another chance. Converse and UNDFTD are releasing an olive green version at the end of the week. I've got the flier up, so if you're in LA this week grab me a pair!

Bling Bling!

Keep me on shine while I get the ching ching!

New exclusive Bapes X Aoyama. This is a combination of the gold and silver color ways A Bathing Ape dropped earlier this month. It appears that this is going to be limited to a Hong Kong release. Good thing too, 'cause these things are too loud for even me, and it would drive me nuts to have to stand next to someone who could pull em off.

Getcho Soul Togetha

Well, whadaya know? It’s that time again…

What do I mean by ‘that time’ you ask? It’s time for another amazing funk show in this wonderful city we all call home. If you have read anything I have posted over the last few months, you would be fully aware that I am a connoisseur of all things soulful and a lover of funkiness in all its forms (so you should listen to me!).

Well, I will be rocking the eff out at Neumos this Saturday to a group by the name of Soulive. Soulive is an incredibly dope funk outfit out of upstate New York that has been cranking out feel good jams for a hot minute. Their previous albums are all worth at least a spin or two, and their hip hop infuzed remix album is a work of genre-bending art. They are currently touring in support of their latest effort titled Up Here and it is exactly what I expected…very funky. It’s a little more rough around the edges than some of their previous efforts and this is a great thing. You can almost picture them rocking out in a basement while recording and the hints of grime in the tracks make it a little more authentic and organic. For example: the slightly distorted bass and guitar riffs, along side some super fresh horns, make the cut Backwards Jack sound like a quality bootleg recording at a concert/basement party rather than a fully spit shined studio recording. All qualities of which I am a fan.

So, go pick up a copy of said cd, and some tickets, then come get down with 400+ of your closest friends this weekend. Buy me a drink while you’re at it.

Glory Glory for United

A 3-1 victory over Arsenal yesteday put the Devils in the Champions League final for a second Consectutive year. This is a club not to be taken lightly. As I'm typing this Chelsea Midfeilder Michael Essien scored a Nineth minute goal to take the lead against Barcelona in the second leg of their evenly drawn matchup. If Chelsea can hold on, we will be looking at a rematch of last year's Champions Leaugue final. The Premeirship is killing it right now, and the Devils are killing the Premiership.

Why Oh Why?

I can't help but think that putting these two girls' birthdays so close together is like god playing a cruel trick on us. Anyways CSaB wants to wish two very happy birthdays to two of its favorites. So if Salts didn't get you last night, and Mel doesn't get you tomorrow I'll see you at the annual Dirty Salty Mess at Del Ray on Friday.

DYME DEF ft/ SAIGON - 'PICKUPYAFLOW'

Super dumb props to Dyme Def on their new EP release and this stellar video. Also recognition needs to be handed out to Bean One for such a neck-spasm inducing slapper.

Pomz, Swerve and I were at this shoot (drinking warm J&B out of a plastic cup) and did shoot some cameos, but strangely enough two white hip hop nerds and a Dominican didn't make it into the final cut...

Seeing Red

I know I already made a post about this Jordan 5 package, but I just found another pic and some new details for dat azz.

Its now officially called the Toro Bravo pack, which takes its name from the Toro Bravo, a special breed of bull bred for the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain.

This is a damn near flawless retro release and I wish I had the dough to cop.

If you find yourself in Bellingham tomorrow night, come out to Poppe's Bistro and Lounge for some killer funk / soul / hip hop. I spin from 9:30 to 12:30 and then we can go get crunk downtown.
